Essay Question (Data Collection)

Essay Question are open-ended questions that challenge students to interpret and explain data from their experiments.

They appear in Data Collection in the Experimentation tab and may include text formatting controls. They can be added to lessons through the Question Customization tool or the Custom Lesson Authoring tool.

1. Select "Essay Question."

2. Compose your question.

Bold the question so that it matches Science Interactive-authored questions.

3. Make any adjustments to the "More options" menu that you desire.

These settings are optional and do not have an impact on the general use of Essay Question panels.

  1. Submit over limit: Allows the student to submit work if over the word limit: Yes or No. The default “No” is used since SI turns the word limit off.
  2. Layout: Can allow special characters. All else should remain as the default.
  3. Details: Edit as needed
  4. Contains math: Yes or No
  5. Add the answer to Sample Answer.

4. Select "Save" at the top right of the page.

5. On the Exercise page, assign a point value to the Essay Question.

6. Scroll to the bottom and select "Save" to save the completed Essay Question.

7. Repeat this process to create as many questions as you would like.
